Lost items pop up in temporary park – Auckland Airport


Auckland AirportThere was one extra green space at Auckland Airport on September 13 when members of The District community turned two parking spaces into a pop-up park to celebrate Park(ing) Day.

The annual celebration began in 2005 when Rebar, a San Francisco-based art and design studio, converted a single metered parking space into a temporary public park in an area of San Francisco that was underserved by public open space. Malta Airport enjoys best month ever in August


Air MaltaMore than the equivalent of Malta’s entire population passed through the airport last month: a record total of 507,646 passengers.

August 2013 will go down in history as the best month ever for Malta International Airport.

By comparison, ten years ago the airport had a throughput of 355,000 passenger movements in August. This reflects an increase of 43%, or 152,000 passenger movements.

Car bomb blast in BasraShi’ite neighborhoods of Baghdad saw a series of explosions when a number of car bombs blew off in the busy areas killing 42 people and wounding dozens said police and medical sources.

Sadr City faced the worst attack when a car bomb blew up near a place where workers had gathered. It killed at least seven people, including two soldiers.

The two years of continuous war in Syria has caused deep-rooted sectarian divisions and strained Iraq’s fragile coalition of Shi’ite, Kurdish and Sunni factions.

tropical stormAltogether five fishing boats with a total of 171 people aboard were caught by Typhoon Wutip, the 21st of the season. At least 70 people are missing after Typhoon Wutip sank two Chinese fishing boats in the South China Sea. All three boats that sank when caught in Typhoon Wutip near the Xisha Islands Sunday afternoon were from Guangdong province in southern China. Rescuers had pulled 14 survivors from the water.

The pilot was forced to make an emergency landing due to functional failure of the gear. The airport’s operations room said the Airbus 320 landed on the tarmac Sunday night leaning on a wing and its tail after the right-side landing gear didn’t work. The airport said the pilot reported problems opening the undercarriage and made an emergency landing.
