Take off for Bristol – Stockholm flight


Take off for BristolPassengers on the inaugural Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) flight between Stockholm and Bristol today were welcomed by costumed characters from the West of England’s history.


Isambard Kingdom Brunel and a Georgian housekeeper posed for photos with delighted Swedes, representing two of the area’s most popular tourist attractions – Brunel’s SS Great Britain in Bristol and No.1 Royal Crescent in Bath.


Reduced Wellington Airport charges welcome


Air New ZealandAir New Zealand Group General Manager Airports John Whittaker says: “The airline is pleased that Wellington Airport has reduced its pricing but remains concerned that the current regulatory regime does not adequately and efficiently ensure that excessive charges like those originally planned for Wellington are avoided.”
 
The airline supports the call by the Board of Airline Representatives New Zealand (BARNZ) for a review by the Government of the current light-handed regulatory regime on major airport pricing.


Southwest Airlines Announces Executive Changes


Southwest AirlinesJack Smith, currently Southwest Airlines’ Vice President of Ground Operations, is being promoted to Senior Vice President of Operations, overseeing Technical Operations, Ground Operations, and Cargo and Charters. Jack is an industry veteran with more than 30 years of experience, joining Southwest from AirTran Airways, where he served as Senior Vice President of Customer Service. His aviation career includes leadership roles in Ground Operations, Inflight, Cargo, Reservations, and Customer Relations.

Delivered: Boeing’s 1,500th jumbo jet goes to Lufthansa


lufthansaLufthansa’s 14th Boeing 747-8 landed in Frankfurt last Sunday, 29 June, at 9.17h a.m. as scheduled. As well as being the 76th jumbo that Lufthansa has received from the American manufacturer Boeing in Seattle since the 1970s, the aircraft also represents a veritable milestone in aviation history. This aircraft, whose tail number is D-ABYP (“Yankee Papa”), is the 1,500th jumbo to be built in the world.


Aeroflot Holds Annual General Meeting of Shareholders

Aeroflot’s shareholders elected members to the Board of Directors, approved the Company’s 2013 dividends and passed a number of other agenda items. Aeroflot’s 2013 dividend of RUB 2.4984 per share is 2.1 times higher than the dividends paid for 2012.

NTAS: PANSA joins A6 Alliance


NATSThe Polish Air Navigation Services Agency (PANSA) is to join the A6 Alliance of European air navigation service providers (ANSPs) working towards the deployment of SESAR to achieve the Single European Sky.


PANSA’s decision means that seven of Europe’s nine Functional Airspace Blocks (FABs) are now represented within the A6 Alliance. PANSA is a member of FABaltic’a, which includes Poland and Lithuania and covers more than 400,000 sq km, handling more than 700,000 flights per annum.


Restaurant Performance Index Rose to its Highest Level in Over Two Years


national restaurant associationDriven by stronger sales and traffic levels and an increasingly optimistic outlook among restaurant operators, the National Restaurant Association’s Restaurant Performance Index (RPI) rose to its highest level in more than two years. The RPI – a monthly composite index that tracks the health of and outlook for the U.S. restaurant industry – stood at 102.1 in May, up 0.4 percent over April and the third consecutive monthly gain and strongest reading since March 2012. In addition, the RPI stood above 100 for the 15th consecutive month, which signifies expansion in the index of key industry indicators.


FAA: Don’t Put Fireworks in Your Carry-On or Checked Baggage


U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration is reminding passengers who are flying this July 4th holiday to leave their fireworks at home. Fireworks pose a significant fire risk to aircraft in the air and on the ground and are not permitted in carry-on or checked baggage.
 
“Safety is our top priority and we want everyone to arrive at their destination safely,” FAA Administrator Michael P. Huerta said. “The public can help us by leaving these dangerous items out of their luggage.”


ABTA freezes Arbitration costs

ABTA’s Arbitration scheme will continue to be handled by CEDR (Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution) who took over the scheme in 2011, streamlining the process and offering users substantial savings.


Abu Dhabi International Airport posts record 27.4% passenger traffic increase in May 2014


Abu Dhabi AirportsAbu Dhabi International Airport recorded 27.4% increase in passenger traffic for the month of May 2014, the highest in the airports’ history. A total of 1,633,700 passengers used Abu Dhabi International Airport last May as compared to 1,282,185 in May 2013.


Aircraft movements also increased by 15.8% registering 12,931 movements when compared with 11,162 movements logged in May 2013. Cargo activity handling rose to 66,944 tonnes representing a 24.5% increase when compared to 53,788 tonnes in May 2013.

Doha to become Emirates’ best connected destination


380new2_tcm133-1719314Doha is to become Emirates’ best served destination with seven daily flights going into the Qatari capital from 1 December.


Doha will take the top spot when it goes from six to seven daily flights, overtaking Bangkok’s six daily services.

 
The extra flights into Doha are part of a 28 flight boost to the airline’s Middle East services.
Muscat will go from two to three flights a day, Bahrain from three to four daily services and Kuwait will increase from five to six flights daily.

Indonesian Volcano Erupts Triggering Colossal Evacuation


volcano remain dangeriousMount Sinabung in Indonesia’s North Sumatra province erupts gushing 4,000 meter-high clouds of ash and smoke into the air while the catastrophic situation triggers massive evacuation. More than 14,300 people have been evacuated. Inhabitants of nearby villages have begun repairing the roofs of homes damaged by the eruption. There were no immediate reports of casualties.
One of the most active volcanoes in Indonesia, Mount Sinabung, is among more than 120 active volcanoes in Indonesia, which is prone to seismic upheaval due to its location in the Pacific Ring of Fire.
Sunday’s eruption occurred at 19:29 p.m. Jakarta time (1229 GMT) with 4,000 meter high column of ash spewed to the sky.
